A NEW ANIMAL SHELTER IS COMING TO MUSKOKA!

The Ontario SPCA will be building a new shelter in Bracebridge, commencing this spring to be completed by the fall of 2010. The construction of the facility has been made possible through the Canada-Ontario Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, under Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

MP Tony Clement for Parry Sound, Muskoka announced January 8, 2010 funding of $1,790,000.00 had been awarded to the OSPCA Muskoka Branch. The federal government of Canada and the Province of Ontario will contribute 2/3 of the funding and the remaining 1/3 of the funding will be raised through a Capital Campaign. The OSPCA Capital Campaign Goal towards the project will be $700,000.00

During the construction phase the Muskoka Branch will continue to operate as normal at it’s current location on 4 Ferrier Road, Bracebridge. Our animals will continue to be cared for and we will be open for adoptions, intakes, volunteering and donations.

The current facility located in Bracebridge is 1000 square feet; the new facility will be 5000 to 6000 square feet and will feature an efficient heating and cooling system, upgraded kennels and animal care areas, a user friendly adoption area and an Off Leash Dog Park. The facility will be located on Hwy 118 West Bracebridge, just past Golden Beach Road. With the expansion in space the OSPCA will be better equipped to offer services and programs to all residents of Muskoka.

A Capital Campaign Committee will be struck and fundraising opportunities and events will be publicized to the community. If you wish to donate to the OSPCA Capital Campaign and help build Muskoka’s newest Animal Adoption Centre contact the Ontario SCPA, Muskoka Branch at (705) 645-6225, email Jane McCamus or visit our shelter at 4 Ferrier Road, Bracebridge.

Every single day animals arrive at the Ontario SPCA Muskoka Branch needing our help. We feed, exercise, bathe, socialize, play with and provide comfort to these abused, neglected and abandoned animals. We drive the wounded and sick to the veterinarian, change bandages, administer medications and monitor their recovery - with the goal of finding each animal a loving home.

Last year hundreds of animals were adopted from the Muskoka Branch adoption centre including cats and dogs of all ages, shapes, sizes and breeds, as well as birds, rabbits, guinea pigs and more!

We invite you to drop by the shelter during adoption hours to visit the animals - and to meet our friendly staff. Our shelter is small, cozy and welcoming! You can also browse our site and view our adoptable animals online.
